Why isn’t my debit card/PIN working?

There may be many reasons a debit card or PIN may not work. In these instances, we encourage you to call or come in to the branch in order to troubleshoot the issue. Common events that prevent a debit card from working are:

  • Exceeding withdrawal limits within a 24 hour time period (debit cards have a limit of $200 for PIN- based transactions, $1,000 for signature-based Point-Of-Sale (POS) transactions, and $5,000 for credit-based transactions. These limits may be adjusted at any time upon request.)
  • Using a debit card for online purchases from an unverified, international or suspicious merchant.. Making a large purchase (online or in-store) that is outside of your normal spending pattern may cause the transaction to be denied. For example,international travel purchases (hotels, airline reservations), home improvement purchases, or high dollar purchases outside of your state of residence. Please let us know before you make purchases such as those described above so we can ensure your transaction will be approved.
  • Having insufficient funds in your account to cover a purchase.
  • Exceeding the daily transaction limits. In an effort to protect our cardholders from unauthorized debit card activity, transactions are limited to 12 transactions within a 24 hour period. If you know you will be making numerous transactions in a short period of time, please let us know so we can make the necessary adjustments.
  • A PIN will be restricted after three failed attempts. If you have forgotten your PIN, please visit a branch so we may reset your PIN. Please be advised that a PIN cannot be reset over the phone.
  • Your card may also be restricted if suspicious activity is detected. In these cases, if a valid phone number is on file, you should receive a call from our Risk Office to verify recent transactions.
